About
Privacy and Analytics
The LA Actor Guide measures how people use the site so we know what to write next. We use two Microsoft and Google tools to do it, one of which records anonymized session replays. This page says exactly what is collected, who gets it, and how to switch it off. We do not sell anything, we do not run ads, and we do not sell or share your data.
What we collect
Two tools run on this site, both loaded on every page:
| Tool | Run by | What it does | Cookies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics 4 | Counts pages viewed, roughly where visitors come from (country, referring site), which links get clicked, and which searches are run in our search box | Yes, first-party | |
| Microsoft Clarity | Microsoft | Heatmaps and session replays: an anonymized reconstruction of how a page was scrolled and clicked | Yes, first-party |
Session replay deserves a plain explanation. Clarity reconstructs how a visitor moved through a page so we can see, for example, that people give up halfway through the cost table. It is not video of you, and it is not tied to your name. Microsoft masks text input by default. We do not use it to identify anyone, and we do not want to.
We also configure Google Analytics to anonymize IP addresses.
What we do not collect
- We do not sell or share your data. Not with advertisers, not with anyone. There are no advertisers.
- No ad tracking, no remarketing, no ad pixels. No Meta pixel, no ad networks, nothing that follows you to another site.
- No accounts, no logins, no profiles. There is nothing to sign into here.
- No newsletter list. We do not have one. If we ever build one, it will be opt-in and it will say so.
- We do not read your email or contact details for anything except answering you. The contact form sends your message to the editor and appends it to a private log on the server. That is it. It is not added to any list.
Who receives it
Google and Microsoft, as the operators of those two tools, under their own terms. Nobody else. We do not pass anything to the sister sites, to Headshots LA, or to any third party.
If you click a link to LA Acting Schools, Headshots LA, or any external source we cite, you are on their site under their privacy terms, not ours.
How to turn it off
All of these work, and none of them break the site. Every page here is plain HTML and reads perfectly with JavaScript disabled entirely.
- Browser Do Not Track / privacy mode. Most privacy-focused browsers (Safari, Firefox, Brave) block both tools by default.
- A content blocker. uBlock Origin and similar block Google Analytics and Clarity outright.
- Microsoft Clarity opt-out: https://clarity.microsoft.com/terms
- Google Analytics opt-out add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
- Disable JavaScript. The site is built so that nothing you came here to read requires it.
We do not use a cookie banner. Banners mostly train people to click "accept" without reading, and ours would not change what we collect. We would rather write this page and let you act on it.
California
We are based in Los Angeles. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front. To ask what we hold or to request deletion, contact us and a human will answer.
Analytics data lives in Google's and Microsoft's systems under their retention policies, so a deletion request for that data is fastest through the opt-out links above, which stop collection at the source.
Changes
If we add or remove a tool, this page changes first, and the updated date at the top changes with it. The same standard applies here as to everything else: see our editorial standards and our advertising and sponsorship policy, which commits us to disclosing any commercial relationship before it can affect anything you read.
Questions about any of this? Ask.
